#1. Cold Milk

As mentioned capsaicin is responsible for heat, you can remove it from central membrane of the pepper. Else, drink cold milk and topically apply the milk over skin burn.

Phosphoprotein housed in milk can effectively remove this heat causing compound from nerve receptors. Other alternate remedies include yogurt, sour milk cream, ice cream or cottage cheese.

#2. Cold Compressor

Place cold compress over jalapeno burn on skin. It helps to alleviate the inflammation. If you mistakenly rubbed your eyes after cutting jalapenos, then place cold compressor over eyes.

#3. Olive Oil or Vegetable Oil

Calming effect of olive oil can effectively reduce the inflammation over the skin. Apply olive oil evenly over the affected part and leave it to dry. Repeat the process till you feel better.

Vegetable oil helps to dissolve capsaicin, so you can get relief from burning. Apply the oil over skin or swish the oil whenever you experience burning sensation in mouth.

#4. Baking Soda

One of the most effective skin burn remedies is baking soda. The stinging sensational feeling after cutting jalapeno can be reduced to  greater extent by using baking soda.

All you need to do is take some baking soda, mix it with water and make a thick paste out of it. Apply this paste on the effected areas and allow it to dry up completely. Later on wash with cold water.

#5. Lemon juice

Basically it is the citrus that helps to reduce the effects of the burns. This remedy is simple yet effective. Simply rub the lemon on the burns or drink lemon juice to get relief. Apart from lemon you can also try citrus based fruits like orange, tomato and even vinegar works good.

#6. Sugar water

If you have consumed jalapeno then you will suffer from severe burning sensation in your mouth, which can be reduced with the help of sugar water to a greater extent. In a glass of cold water mix a table spoon of sugar  and floss continuously until you get relieve.

#7. Olive oil

Olive oil gives a sense of coolness when applied on the burns. Simply apply olive oil on the burns and allow it to sit for few hours to get relief.

Other remedies to reduce jalapeno burn include

  • Honey has anti-inflammatory properties that can effectively reduce burn over the skin and mouth.
  • Even white toothpaste comes in handy to reduce burning sensation.
  • Starchy food like potato also helps to reduce the burning sensation. Chew a slice of potato.


  • Take care to wash your hands after cutting jalapeno, as the juice or oil may get into your eyes.
  • Don’t drink water, as it spreads the burning sensation to other parts of the body.
  • If the problem persists, you must visit the doctor immediately.
