Sodium lauryl sulfate is one such chemical substance, which can irritate your skin.

Sodium lauryl sulfate allergy triggers when you use products that include this chemical ingredient. Normally, soaps and toothpaste are incorporated with SLS for foam. Few researchers say that products that include SLS have carcinogenic agents, which can trigger cancer.

Topical application of cosmetic products allows these chemicals to penetrate deep into the skin and absorbed by blood stream. According to Environmental Working Group (EWG) 1 in 5 cosmetic products may contain cancer causing agents.

SLS is known to break oil and grease. When you apply it on the skin, along with impurities and dirt this chemical strips natural layer of the skin leaving it dry. Chronic skin ailments like contact dermatitis and eczema can be triggered by repeated use of products that include sodium lauryl sulfate.

If the symptoms of SLS allergy increase, you must consult allergist and follow his prescribed medication. Apart from that you must avoid products that have SLS chemical incorporated in it.

Massaging with olive oil, coconut oil or jojoba oil will relieve from rigorous itching. For flaky skin, moisturize with rose water regularly before going to bed.

Check for a product which doesn’t include SLS in it. You can check the ingredient’s list behind the product for SLS or other related chemical substances.

There are few products that label “all natural”, but even they may contain SLS, because SLS is derived from coconut. It’s recommended to check with the allergist before buying any new product launched in the market.
