Red meat is my cousin’s favorite food, he enjoy it a lot. But, when he repeatedly ingested meat, surprisingly inflamed bumps appeared on his legs and hands. Later it was confirmed that he is hypersensitive to that particular food.
Same goes with all food substances. Persimmon allergy is rare and none of us heard it before.
An allergic reaction triggers when sensitive people ingest particular food substance and immune system react by releasing IgE antibodies to thwart them out.
While research I came across a bunch of cases where people are confused (like my cousin) about why the allergic reaction triggered now, when they are being consuming same food for months.
First time when you ingest allergic food substances, immune system produces antibodies to detect proteins. Next time when you ingest similar protein included food, antibodies signals immune system to release histamines.
Thus, a chemical reaction is stimulated and the person experiences different allergic symptoms.
Persimmon is packed with rich concentration of fiber, phytochemicals and vitamins. It is renowned for its exceptional benefits of health and skin.
However, when hypersensitive person consume, touch or inhale (in rare cases) below mentioned allergic signs can be seen.
Persimmon Allergy Symptoms
Signs aren’t same for everyone. Depending on immune system and quantity ingested, allergic reaction affects. It can be mild, moderate or severe reaction.
In all cases, you must consult allergist for treatment. Though you can use home remedies to reduce allergic symptoms, don’t just rely on them.
Researchers determined following proteins as allergens Dio k 4, A 17 kDa and a Bet v 1 homologue.
A study was carried on 3 patients with persimmon allergy; one of them experienced pruritus, penis edema, urticaria, and asthma; second seen nausea and vomiting; third experienced rhinoconjunctivitis, asthma, and stomachache. (1)
Other symptoms which you can experience include runny nose, sneezing, post nasal drip, red itchy eyes, swelling of lips, throat and mouth, tingling sensation around mouth and respiratory issues like trouble in breathing and digestive issues.
Further the study says that allergic reaction can be triggered by cross reactivity or pollen food allergy. Raw fruits and vegetables include pollen that can stimulate allergic reaction in sensitive people.
When the person ingest raw persimmon, pollen get transferred to blood and the reaction can be seen within few hours of ingesting. Cooking or processing of raw fruits or vegetables can be safe.
Diagnosis
Food allergy signs are identical; you can’t determine the allergic food substance just by seeing the allergic symptom. Allergist will conduct skin prick test, by exposing your skin to different allergens include persimmon to confirm the allergy.
Once persimmon allergy is confirmed you must not just oral and topical medication prescribed by allergist, avoid eating persimmon and other fruits that include similar protein.
